Greg's DAW Ka-6

greg ka6

Friend, and fellow club member, Greg Johnson bashed one of our Ka6 kits and added some really great modifications that you might wish to consider when you build your Ka6.

The key changes that you will see in these photos are the inclusion of a plywood servo box, battery and receiver compartment. Greg cut the nose off completely and then carefully and meticulously used a long bladed knife to create the opening for the plywood box to fit into. As you can see, Greg is a craftsman so everything fit perfectly.

He hollowed out the nose section that was cut off to receive the battery box portion of the new cockpit area. This also allowed him to have a place for nose weight to balance out his Ka6.

Another nice addition is the clear canopy that he made using a plastic soft drink bottle. This method was well documented by Fred Sanford (another great modeler and friend) on RC Groups. You can check it out at this URL: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468265

Notice that Greg also lightened the tail surfaces by drilling out holes in the surfaces.

Flaps were added to allow for Crow among all the other enhancements that flaps allow if you are using a computer radio.

Greg chose a Canadian covering scheme that is beautiful but also makes his plane easy to see when it’s specked out.

Take a look at all of the photos to see what a beautiful job he did.
