About Us
For the past twenty years I have enjoyed all aspects of radio controlled flight. I started in the hobby after seeing some local pilots flying RC gliders off a frozen lake. I was taking a walk with my wife when I saw all of these airplanes in the air. I stopped to ask some questions. As I continued on my walk I knew this was a perfect hobby for me.
I've always enjoyed woodworking, cars, motorcycles but most of all I was an aviation buff at a young age. The military school I attended had a Corsair parked on the back corner of the football field. Anyone that wanted to could hop in the seat and let their imagination soar. Mine sure did.
In college, I began taking flying lessons in an old Piper J3. Although I never went on to get my license I always loved flying.
After sampling many aspects of RC flight I found gliders to be the most exciting. I enjoy thermal flying and still consider myself very much of a student rather than an accomplished pilot. Learning is almost as much fun as doing. More recently I have found out how much fun slope flight is. EPP models opened a new world to me. Thanks Pat Bowman and Dave Sanders.
My home town club, Minnesota Radio Controlled Soaring Society is one of the largest RC Soaring clubs in the country boasting a membership of over 100. We are an active club and take many slope and soaring trips as a group each year. I have enjoyed serving as the clubs president as well as arranging many of the club building projects that we do each season.
I recently retired as a manufacturer's sales representative having spent the better part of 35 years selling to some of the largest retailers in the industry. I also owned a successful wood manufacturing business producing storage products for CD's, Cassettes, and Video tapes. This combined knowledge of both selling and marketing as well as manufacturing seemed like a great fit.
Friends have asked why in the world I would start a new business after selling a successful agency to retire. I guess I just missed the action. SkyKing RC Products is a labor of love rather than a necessity.
I hope to bring back many of the sought after models that are no longer being produced by their original designers and makers as well as some new designs that are currently in the works.
